Transport for London, the agency that manages the trains, subways, buses and city’s roads, has begun testing a new technology that will limit top speed in the city. For now, the trial is local to London and limited to a fleet of 12 vehicles.
The cars are fitted with a GPS-linked speed limiter: A GPS chipset coupled to a speed database, that prevents drivers from driving over the speed limits.
The experiment could result in interesting studies on accident rates in relationship with speed.
The question is: Are private drivers ready to welcome this futuristic technology in their cars … ?
